Bolivia Community supporting parrots conservation sewing pillow cover for Celltei

In September 2021, we joined Phoenix Landing Foundation ("PL") on a bird ecotour in Bolivia. PL is a great parrot rehome and education group in North Carolina that we often refer bird family to for information about keeping parrots. The hosting conservation group in Bolivia is a local partner of World Parrot Trust.

From seeing Green Cheeked Conures that fly so fast that we mistakenly thought they were bats to the endemic Blue Throated and Red Fronted Macaws, we got our "parrot addiction" fixed :-). Unlike Costa Rica or Brazil, the infrastructure in Bolivia was rather lacking. It was hard to reach and stay in the locations where we could see the wild birds. Locals certainly share the joy of having parrots and other wildlife around. If we want to help the wild birds fly, have a reliable organization that support local communities who also find value in protecting local wild parrot population seems like a direct answer to us.

We purchase these hand embroidered pillow covers from a local museum in full retail price. The museum staff provides teaching, guidance and materials to women in local communities to creating these covers. They are uniquely handmade with individual composition ideas and color choices. Vibrant, lively, insightful and joyful, each cover has a tag signed by the creating woman who may also share a message on it. We also prepaid US$3 per cover to support the local parrot conservation group that took us on the journey. In fact, YOU paid for that $3 we advanced for you! On behalf of the wild parrots, THANK YOU!
